Siyao Lyu is an educator and researcher now based in New York, U.S. Siyao’s education practices and research focus on the complexities of community-based learning spaces, such as museums. Specifically, she is interested in the potential of civic education in community settings through arts-based approaches for marginalized people. She sees an urgent need for identity exploration, critical consciousness, and civic development for people in the post-pandemic generation. Through her research and practice, Siyao aims to address educational inequality, challenge mainstream educational discourses, and promote the overall well-being of the general public. Her doctoral dissertation topic explores teaching Asian/American civics through the arts in museums to confront anti-Asian racism.
